Southern Medical College & Hospital had opened its doors in the year 2005 for aspiring scholarly national and foreign students endeavoring to undertake studies of medical sciences towards achieving of an MBBS degree. This college sprawling on 2.00 acres of lush, serene and naturally beautiful set up provides an ideal home for academic environment. Located in the metropolitan area of Chittagong, a major industrial and commercial hub of Bangladesh, Southern Medical College & Hospital had started with an initial intake of 50 students . So far many of the students have graduated as MBBS Doctors from this prestigious institution and quite a number of them have secured places in the merit lists in different professional examinations of the University of Chittagong & Chittagong Medical University. Most of these doctors are now either serving at reputed medical organizations or pursuing studies at higher level of education in medical sciences, both at home and abroad. Our forte is a battery of highly qualified, professionally excellent members of teaching staff who are most sincere and effective in disseminating medical education to our aspiring students. We are highly proud of our faculty members who take care of all students with empathetic care and the effect of which is clearly reflected by the extraordinary performances of our students in different professional examinations.
Southern Medical College and Hospital, associated with Chittagong Medical University is fully accredited medical educational institution established under the permission by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of Bangladesh and authorized for a yearly intake of 65 freshman students. Our academic norms and curricula have the recognition by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Course (BM&DC) and is governed by the strict adherence to BM&DC guideline. Our MBBS degrees were affiliated to University of Chittagong till recently and from the session 2017-2018 the affiliating authority has been officially transferred to Chittagong Medical University.
Southern Medical College is attached to a six storied teaching Hospital building having 400 bed capacities with facilities open 24 hours catering to the medical needs of thousands of inhabitants in the vicinity of this region. This modern hospital building is equipped with large elevator/ lift and most modern medical equipment and facilities. The hospital is adequately staffed with highly qualified medical doctors, professionals and support staff congenial for efficient teaching and learning systems.

Prof. Dr. Joyabrata Das son of Late Gopal Krishna Das & Mrs. Arati Rani Das born in 21st July 1969 at Kalampati, Raozan, Chattogram. He passed S.S.C from Raozan High School in 1984 & HSC from Chittagong College in 1986. He obtained MBBS, D-Card & MD degree from Chittagong Medical College in 1993, 2003 & 2009. He becomes Fellow from BCPS in 2010 & from Royal College of Physician Glasgow in 2020. He had more than 30 publications in different national & international journal. He joined Southern Medical College & Hospital in 2011.
